Bungie Considering Adding Matchmaking To Destiny’s Vault Of Glass Raid
Across Destiny and Destiny 2, Bungie has delivered 10 raids, each with their own quirks, themes, and memorable moments. The short platforming stint gets interesting when you introduce the optional objective of making sure a ball makes it all the way to end, but is too short and lacks the visual flair to stand as a good breather from the action. The last two fights are surprisingly nuanced, however, with a number of different phases and sequences which teams must work through in order to succeed.
The layering of multiple elements works well and still makes for some rewarding moments, but the familiarity of its encounters as well as its loot being recolored versions of the Eater of Worlds sets make it the raid we ran the least. Kicking things off with a platforming segment is a bold move, but the focus on making sure everyone is in the right spot at the right time instead of having each player conquer the challenge on their own is a step forward.
Shooting things in Destiny is fun in and of itself, but expectations for how that shooting is contextualized are a bit higher.
Raid matchmaking. The entrance to Destiny’s Vault of Glass – still, some would argue, its best. This has been one of the most consistent sore.
After all that, you should be waiting in the lobby with the rest of your group, waiting to descend to the surface of Venus to challenge the Vault of Glass. Straight off the bat the raid focuses on team work. Pull out a void weapon if you have one, or your highest damage weapon of another type. The objective here is to take control of three sync plates large discs on the ground that react when players or enemies stand on them.
The plates are placed in a horizontal line facing the large gate at the top of the slope. All three plates need to be activated under your team’s control to start creating the spire the creation of the gateway to the next section of the raid. The best tactic for maintaining control of the plates is to split up into two player teams one next to each plate to maintain control. Stand on the plate to gain control of it and then move off it you don’t need to stand on it to maintain it.
Enemies will continually spawn from points near the plates and move to engage players near them. This means it is better to avoid standing directly on the plate as doing so will draw the enemies onto it when they attempt to attack you. This will negate the plate quickly if you aren’t careful. The enemies consist of goblins, harpies, hobgoblins and the real threat here The preatorians are yellow health bar minotaur enemies with a void purple shield covering them see why I said void weapons?
When one appears, focus fire on it and call out it’s plate location if it is getting through.

The Vault of Glass, Bungie’s big six person Raid in Destiny, only allows groups of friends to party up and tackle its challenges. Though that.
A weekly update from Destiny developers Bungie has revealed that the studio is considering adding matchmaking to their end-game raids. Destiny’s raids are the most challenging parts of the hit game, requiring six players level 26 or above to team up for a lengthy test of endurance. As it stands the game’s only raid so far, Vault of Glass, requires six players who know each other — rather than matching up strangers through the matchmaking system used in other areas of the game.
Asked about raid matchmaking in their weekly update Bungie said: “The best I can do to answer your question is to let you know that you’ve been heard. We’re having conversations about how Matchmaking might support the more challenging activities in Destiny. The gist of their answer suggests concerns that if they opened up raids to matchmaking that a group of strangers wouldn’t, in most instances, be able work together effectively enough to complete the tough-as-nails mission.
What Bungie has to weigh up is what’s worse: the risk players regularly failing the raid when teaming up with the strangers, and the frustration it causes, versus leaving many players unable to gather six people to play at once with no way of playing that part of the game they purchased. You don’t need to sell us too hard on the value of Matchmaking at Bungie. It’s something we helped to pioneer. Yet, we understand its limitations.
